PORALG Minister Selemani Jafo and USAID Mission Director Andrew Karas at the Lishe Endelevu launch.

On May 30, 2019, the United States Government launched the Lishe Endelevu (“Sustainable Nutrition”) activity at Kizitwe in Sumbawanga Municipality, Rukwa region. This new program will reduce stunting in children, increase the proportion of children with a diet of regular and healthy meals, and improve nutrition for women of childbearing age.

Lishe Endelevu, funded by the U.S. Government through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and implemented by Save the Children, exhibits the long-standing partnership between the United States and Tanzania in pursuit of improving the lives of Tanzanians.

“The U.S. Government joins the Government of Tanzania in recognizing that healthy children are the future leaders of Tanzania. Improved nutrition will give children in Tanzania the opportunity to reach their full potential in health, education, and future productivity,” said USAID Mission Director, Andy Karas, during the launch.

In addition to improving delivery of nutrition services, Lishe Endelevu will support water, sanitation, and hygiene activities to support improved nutrition. The activity will also work to increase access to nutritious foods by promoting nutrient-rich crops, improved technologies, and small livestock rearing.
