YOUTHS in the country have been challenged to take advantage of Tanzania’s digital transformation to generate income by finding digital solutions to the various problem happening in society.
The statement was made yesterday by the Board member of T-Marc Tanzania, Ms Awaichi Mawalla during the opening of the third Youths Hackathon program 2022 held in Dar es Salaam.
The program was organized by UJUZI Tanzania’s Skills Forum in collaboration with T-MARC Tanzania which aiming at to empower young Tanzanians with digital, innovative and entrepreneurial skills to become economically independent.
“Youths in Tanzania have to take advantage of rapid Tanzania’s Digital transformation to generate revenue by finding solutions to problems occurred in our society.” she underscored In the course, she added there are a number of problems in society which require digital solutions due to swift global change of science and technology and population while stressing the youths to turn those problems into opportunities through digital solutions.
“Through this Youths Hackathon ...I optimistic the youths will acquire the knowledge that will aid them to come up with innovative ideas which will simplify the lives of our communities, and at the same time generate revenue.” she said.
Expounding the strides of the program, the Director and Founder of UJUZI Tanzania’s Skills Forum, Ms Kai Maembe underlined that the current program has involved the youtheven with disability especially with hearing disability.
“In this Hackathon youths with hearing disability have also been invited to unleash their innovative potential.” Ms Maembe said.
According to Ms Maembe, the third program requires the participants to answer the question 'what could be the solution to congestion in Dar e s Salaam business city?’ while stressing that participants employ digital solutions and come up with strategic and practical solutions.
“We expect to find a digital solution to mitigate the impacts caused by the congestion in Dar es Salaam business city…. I expect the participant to come up with a fundable and practica8l idea that will comply with the economic status of all people.” she said
She further noted that at the end of the hackathon, the participants will create a demo that they will pitch in front of a panel of judges while adding that the winners will receive awards and an opportunity to get a 2-month training into making their projects a business and generate income and revenue.
For her part, Program Director for T-Marc Tanzania, Ms Halima Mwinyi unveiled that collaboration with Ujuzi Forum is a strategic move since they are aiming at serving amongst others, the same group, youth while pledging to continue to cooperate in supporting youths in the country.
