The Global Compact Network Tanzania (GCNT) brought together more 100 leaders from business with representatives from Civil society, and the UN, to highlight private sector commitment on responsible business practices and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at its first SDG- VNR Business & CSO Consultation meeting. Under theme Opportunities for Government and multiple stakeholders to bring solutions to scale for the Sustainable Development Goals and contribute to an inclusive Voluntary National Review of Tanzania.
The objective of the SDGs Business & CSO Consultation Roadshow is to raise awareness of business opportunities provided by the SDGs among cross-sections of the business community in Tanzania and to help companies understand the opportunities provided by the SDGs, actions that businesses can take to exploit such opportunities, and the resources available to them.
Global Compact Network in Tanzania (GCNT) in collaboration with TPSF, CTI, TAHA, TATO and ATE with support of UNDP will convene SDGS – VNR Business & CSO Roadshow in three major cities i.e. Mwanza, DSM and Arusha. The event focused on six SDGs that have been selected for the 2019 VNR process, i.e., (Goal4, Goal8, Goal10, Goal13, Goal16 & Goal17).
Speaking at the Event GCNT Chairman Mr. Simon Peter Say that “These roadshows will build a foundation for longer term, sustainable and inclusive participation, giving a variety of stakeholders the opportunity to connect, align priorities and sustain momentum toward achieving the Global Goals. We believe that markets and analysts will review a transparent view of progress in a positive light”
Speaking at the event Godfrey Simbeye - TPSF, Executive Director and GCNT Board member said “I count on Tanzanian companies to take lead toward reporting of implementation of sustainable development goals (SDGs) through telling and showcasing business stories with social impact to the community as” From the CSO.
Speaking at the event; Mr. Reynald Maeda- UNA Secretary General “He also heighted the importance of CSOs and companies to team up ( partnership ) towards implementation of Agenda 2030 and Africa agenda 2063”.
Speaking on the event Mr. Fitsum Abraha – UNDP Senior Economist. “He heighted the link between SDGs & FYDPII and the role of companies towards implementation of sustainable development goals (SDGs)”.
Speaking on the Event Mr. Emmanuel Nnko – UNGC Network Coordinator highlighted the that “The VNR process can create opportunities and value, building insights and a foundation that can show case Tanzania progress in the next waves of engagement, with other global stakeholders. Sometime VNR provides an opportunity for the Tanzanian private sector & CSO to build trust and collaboration with the public sector. To show that we stand together”.
