More than 2,000 students, staff, Rotarians and dignitaries attended the handover,  "Maji Kwa Maisha" at Shule Msingi Msasani.

Msasani Primary School is among nine schools in Dar es Salaam that will benefit from a water and sanitation project valued at USD 80,000.

The money was jointly raised by six Dar es Salaam Rotary clubs during the ‘2010 Rotary Dar Marathon’ and by Rotary Clubs in Vancouver and matched by the Rotary Foundation.

Installations include renovation of existing toilets, water storage facilities, water filtering facilities to reach drinking quality, various water points and faucets, hand washing facilities, piping, valves among other facilities.

“I’m very proud of the collective efforts that have resulted in the transformation for the better of so many student’s lives,” said Raju Sheth, President, Rotary Club of Dar es Salaam Oysterbay.

“It’s a great feeling, not only for Rotary Clubs and Rotarians, but the pupils and families of the pupils. Projects that lead to activities like these are a living example of our motto, ‘Service above Self’. We feel honoured and humbled to be a part of this, and to help make it possible,” he added.

The project is organised by a partnership of Rotary Club of Dar es Salaam Oysterbay, other Dar es Salaam Rotary Clubs and Rotary Clubs in Vancouver, Canada and The Rotary Foundation. The Rotary Club of Dar es Salaam Oysterbay, took responsibility for the renovations and installations at Msasani Primary School.

The official handover ceremony will take place at Msasani Primary School on Tuesday, 26 February, 2013 at 7:30am.
