September 2008Global sports giant ESPN and pioneering pay-TV operator MultiChoice Africa have now confirmed the launch of ESPN’s second sports channel on DStv: ESPN Classic. The channel will now be available to over 40 countries across the continent. Devoted entirely to the greatest moments, and legends in sport, the channel will showcase some of the most unforgettable highlights from global sports archives, alongside sporting documentaries, sporting movies and interviews with sporting icons.
ESPN Classic will be available 24/7 from September 1 (06:00 CAT) to DStv Premium subscribers on channel 231 and will complement the flagship ESPN (channel 230).ESPN Classic will take fans back in time to relive the greatest triumphs, comebacks, upsets and achievements in international sports history.
In addition, leading up to major sports events, viewers will see footage from ESPN’s vast archives that showcase classic moments from that event’s history. The channel will also include programming scheduled to complement real-time live sports events shown on other channels. Programming on the channel includes FA Premier league; UEFA Champions League and UEFA Cup; Serie A; FIFA World Cup, Summer & Winter Olympics, Cricket, Rugby, Tennis; Formula 1 and Moto GP motorsport.
