SuperSport’s commitment in giving the East and Central Africa region a platform to showcase its footballing talents to the rest of the continent took a giant leap this week with the acquisition of broadcasting rights for the Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (Cecafa) Club Championships which kick off this weekend.

The Cecafa Club Championships join an ever expanding list of East and Central African region football tournaments covered by the World of Champions, these include over 80 live matches of the Kenyan Premier League, the recently acquired Ugandan Super League, the Dar es Salaam derby and the Cecafa Senior Challenge.

SuperSport’s Head of Africa Gary Rathbone could not hide his excitement about the latest acquisition into the SuperSport stable.

"I’m very excited about being able to bring to our viewers the CECAFA Club Championship live for the very first time. Following our great coverage of the CECAFA Senior Challenge last years, this is the next step towards expanding our coverage of the best football from the East African region. said Rathbone”

“We are talking about the club champions from right across East Africa - including Kenyan champions Ulinzi, Tanzanian champions Yanga and Ugandan champions Banamwaya. This will be an absolute feast of football for fans everywhere."

Twelve teams will battle it out in Dar es Salaam and Morogoro for regional honours in the 12 team tournament that kicked off on Saturday, June 25th and runs through to July 9th.
