President Mahmoud Abbas Tuesday received the President of the South African Football Association (SAFA), Kirsten Nematandani, in the presidential headquarters in Ramallah.

Abbas praised Nematandani’s visit to the Palestinian Territory that reflects solidarity and support to the Palestinian people and their inalienable rights.

Abbas as well praised South Africa’s support to the Palestinian Authority, especially for supporting the Palestinian application for full membership in the United Nations Security Council and voting in favor of the Palestinian full membership in UNESCO.

On his part, Nematandani expressed joy for his visit to Palestine and meeting the palestinian leader, leadership and people.

He said he witnessed the actual sufferings of the Palestinians with his own eyes, noting that sport is an international language that connects people and bring them closer, as well as a tool to spread love and peace.

He considered the South Africa football team’s visit and participation in Palestinian events commemorating the death anniversary of the late President Yasser Arafat and the Declaration of Independence a way to express support to the Palestinians’ rights to freedom, independence and statehood.
