German Development Minister Dirk Niebel has said that the Fatah-Hamas reconciliation agreement was an important step forward and could play a key role in implementing the two-state solution.
Niebel, addressing a press conference at UNRWA headquarters in Gaza city on Tuesday, said that there would be no development without a political solution. He added that there should be a permanent ceasefire and an end to the siege on Gaza.
He urged Israel to lift the siege on Gaza to allow reconstruction of the beleaguered Strip.
The German minister said that his country pledged 50 million Euros for the sewage treatment plant east of Breij refugee camp in central Gaza and three million Euros for the construction of new UNRWA schools.
He said his visit to the Strip was meant to get acquainted with the projects, which are made in cooperation between Germany and the Palestinians.
