A dream ending to a beautiful tournament

Egypt’s dream of being the first country to win the Africa Cup of Nations for a record three times is within grasp. This all happened when they successfully fought off Algeria, beating them four – nil.

Algeria were outnumbered and outclassed after three players received red cards and the Egyptians maximised on the advantage. They attacked relentlessly and defended even better, scoring goals in the 38th, 65th, 80th and 92nd minutes.

Ghana’s dream of playing in the Africa Cup of Nations after 18 years of not getting there became a reality when the team beat their West African neighbours, Nigeria.

In a toughly contested match that saw both teams attacking, defending and counter attacking, it would be the team that capitalised on the slip-up of the other to take control and score. Ghana scored their goal in the 21st minute and held on to their lead to the end, securing their place in the 53rd Africa Cup of Nations for the first time in 18 years.

The two wins for the teams mean that Algeria will kick off against Nigeria on Saturday, in a play-off for third and fourth place. The match will be screened on SuperSport from 18:00 CAT.

The final of the Africa Cup of Nations will take place on Sunday January 31 and the match will be screened live on SuperSport from 18:00 CAT.
