RUSSIA UNDERSTANDS, SUPPORTS PALESTINIAN BID TO UN

Russia completely understands and Supports the Palestinian bid to gain United Nations full membership of a Palestinian state within 1967 borders in September, Sunday said PLO Executive Committee Member, Nabil Shaath in a press release after talks with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister, Mikhail Bogdanov in Moscow.

'Moscow expressed broad understanding of our positions and realization of the importance of gaining recognition of the Palestinian state in the UN for us,' said Shaath.

Ending his visit to Moscow as a special envoy for President Mahmoud Abbas, Shaath said that his visit didn't aim to make requests because Russia already recognized the Palestinian state, but they discussed details and presented recent ideas and issues concerning rallying support for the Palestinian UN bid.

Shaath's visit to Russia comes in line with the framework of the Palestinian movement towards gaining UN recognition of a Palestinian state in September.

He previously visited India and Thailand, which announced their support to the Palestinian UN bid
